Montafon Alpine and Tourism Museum

Art and culture, Museum

The Montafon Tourism Museum in Gaschurn is located in an old early fair house and has existed since 1992. For 17 years, the history of tourism was presented here, but since 2009 the house has been reoriented. Based on the architecture of the old Walser house, which is impressive in its simplicity and beauty at the same time, and on its prominent resident Franz Josef Battlogg (1836-1900), the object will in future show a focus on alpine history. Battlogg, an early sacristan and later pastor, had created an international reputation for himself as an alpine pioneer and exceptional choirmaster in the late 1860s and 1870s. He described Gaschurn as the "vestibule to the great mountain world" and it is in this spirit that the museum will operate in the future. Changing special exhibitions here also refer to the local area but also to the main themes shown in the other Montafon museums.
