Milk products from the »Sennkuchi« (mountain kitchen)

In the »Sennkuchi« in the mountain dairy on Alpe Garnera fresh alpine milk is used to make traditional and innovative milk products. The staff at the Alpe will be happy to explain the age-old method for making Sura Kees (sour cheese), hard cheese, alp butter, yoghurt, curd cheese, »Saladiner« and whey drinks.

The Alpe discovery trail

The walk begins with a ride up on the Versettlabahn cable car from Gaschurn. From the middle station (1,480 above sea level) a good path heads off over past the Lifinar early summer settlement, and continues along the Garnera stream through an idyllic landscape to the Alpe Garnera (1,680 m above sea level). The alp master will guide you through a landscape where, thanks to the hard work of the mountain farmers, alpine traditions and attractive vegetation have been successfully preserved.

After visiting the Alpe, fresh and reinvigorated, you can head back down towards the valley. Passing the "Fenggatobel" and the Ganeu summer settlement (1,400 above sea level), the trail brings you back to Gaschurn.

An overview of the walk:

• Easy mountain walk
• Total walking time 4 1/4 hours (without stops)
• Accompanied by the alp master
• Visit of Alpe Garnera and a short introduction to butter and cheese production

Dates for summer 2020 (not yet finalised)

• Every Friday from June to September
• Meeting point at 08.40 at the bottom station of the Versettla cable car in Gaschurn, return at approx. 16.00
• The walk takes place whatever the weather.

• Adults EUR 15.00, 
• Children (born 1998 to 2011) EUR 10.00
• Children born 2012 and after free of charge
• Guests in possession of the Montafoner guest card: -10%
• Guests of BergePLUS partner establishments free of charge  

*Travel by cable car and bus is not included in the price. NB: BergePLUS- and guest cards must be shown to the walking guides.
